1 Laptop per Child - $100 Each

Third world country's don't have much money but when they need a cheap and robust computer they look towards the 1 laptop per child group. Yep you guessed it, its only $100 and even better it hasn't got a 'plug into the wall' charger you just plug in your crank charger and after charging for thirty minutes you get one hour of computer time. They managed to make it very cheap because it uses Linux and as you know, Windows is quite expensive so they had to use a free operating system. Then it has a flash memory card which will make it fast energy efficient and very cheap, and thats just the tip of the iceberg, it also uses Mobile ad-hoc networking for a reliable internet source. Sadly i am led to believe that the OLPC ( One Laptop Per Child) isn't in the market yet but only distributed in third world countries so if you were hoping to get one, well you'll just have to wait a bit longer

Dr. Google - The new Online Doctor

Google have taken over most of the nets advertisement, then they are the biggest search engine and now they are your new doctor. What a surprise, no? well not exactly, Google Health isn't your local GP but more of a Find a doctor, keep your records and exploring online health services. But i suppose that it is along the lines of what Google would have wanted to do, they own Google docs and that keeps your spread sheets and then they have Gmail, Googles approach to an online email provider and when you delete emails it stays in their servers for around one month and then its truly deleted and now they can see your medical records. Now the thing that freaks me out is the fact that the FBI actually payed Google to look through all of the search results. So if they can see that I'm talking to 'Jane' and that I'm having back problems and they can also look at my spread sheet and see that I'm a millionaire then I'm not interested. Its a simple and good idea but Google is slowly taking away out personalities whilst we are convinced that they are giving a free simple and handy service. So i will leave it at that and say that I'm not interested in Google Health and that i don't want them to know everything that i have in my life.

Have you ever forgotten your password to log into windows, and had to go into the hassle to find out how to change it again? Well hopefully this technique which involves an iPod will make your music player do the remembering. This won't affect your iPod and no programs required, its all in windows. Just simply plug your iPod into your computer and then go to control panel > User Accounts > Select your account > Related Tasks > “Prevent a forgotten password”. Now once this is done all you need to do is find your iPod i.e.: L's iPod then enter your password and select finish and now each time you forget your password all you need to do is plug in your iPod and then select "did you forget your password?" and your password will be entered. so there you go, no need to remember your password when you have your personal music player at hand :)

Apple have recently spread out a virus called RavMonE.exe on under 1% of Ipods, though they say that the virus isn't very harmful and is rated a low class virus it has still affected under 1% of iPods though that excludes the iPod nano, iPod shuffle and Mac OS X. This virus is a back doorTrojan which routes a tunnel past your security letting the programmer of the virus enter your computer very easily. This program is a windows virus so all you MAC users out there, your safe at the moment and only 25 people have receive this virus so the chances of millions of users from getting this are very little. All up to date anti viruses should easily remove this virus and the windows security should also easily be able to pick up this piece of malware with out much difficulty. eyeOS is a simple fun online operating system which is completely free and easy to use, When signing up you simply enter a desired login name, password and select a language and your all done. It takes literally five seconds to join up to and it takes 5 seconds to understand how to use it. You get another version of Google Docs which is incorporated into your online OS and it has many simple features such as an FTP uploader/downloader, eyeEmail, Calculator, word (not so much word but nevertheless its the same principle), games and many other features. Its very handy for travelers and as you guessed, you can use it all over the world assuming you have an internet connexion. While you can check it on a computer i also am lead to believe that you can also use your mobile to interact with your operating system. I actually believe that this is one free useful and easy tool that every one should use. Where have they gone wrong. Okay its not exactly Windows Vista style but its not a pile of rubbish which is covered up by a card board box. Its sleek, Simple, it doesn't crash too easily (though you just close your web browser and your problems are finished).

In general i would give this operating system an 8 out of 10!

Estonian cyber defence

A few months ago Estonia was under attack, not the normal shoot as many rounds as you can hoping that one of your bullets will kill some one. No in fact it was a cyber war, Russia was annoyed that Estonia remove the bronze statue of a Red Army soldier in the center of Tallinn. So you can guess what they did next, Its quite clever really but highly risked. They had two options, one of them was use their computers or the second one was send out zombies to computers (like Trojans) and they all connect to the same server/website/country's system and there is so much information, as you've guessed it just simply crashes and dies. The only problem with them both is that in order to do so you need to send out the virus first, that leaves a signal of your IP, but they would have been clever and spoofed it, Now once it is downloaded your zombiefied computer needs to receive instructions, so the creator of the virus sends out the target and they start attacking the website by using up lots of data, in fact too much that it even crashes it. But to send out the command you will need to send out a signal which also contains your IP which has been spoofed. So in the end all of CIA and the MI6 tech boffs will have to find the IP that went to spoof the IP and it can go on for years. Crashing a developing country's internet especially when it needs it will bring the country to a stand still so Germany, Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy and Spain will help and fund the hub in the Estonian capital Tallinn to protect the security. A Nato spokesman, James Appathurai said after a signing ceremony in Brussels "We have seen in Estonia that a cyber attack can swiftly become an issue of national security," and also said "Cyber attacks can cripple societies". After all these disputes it's quite simple that every one will be ready for the next cyber attack, but this time they won't be surprised. They will be waiting.

Gay gamer tag banned from Xbox Live

The gamer tag theGAYERgamer was recently banned from the Xbox Live "XBL" for apparently not complying with their policy. When Grant (theGAYERgamer) called up to the Microsoft head quarters he was told that it wasn't Microsoft who thought that that his gamer tag was offensive but that the other XBL gamers who wrote in saying that he thought that his tag was offensive. So he wrote in to consumerist.com and told them the following

"I have had a bad morning. Last night when i tried to sign into my xbox live account "thegayergamer" I was told that it had to be changed. I figured that it was just from people reporting it as an offensive name being that the greater Xbox live community isn't exactly welcome to gay people, i spend a lot of time muting people on Halo3. I assumed that once i called Microsoft they would straighten things out.

I talked to a supervisor there, Roxy, who told me that she didn't personally find the fact that my gamer tag had gay in the name offensive, but that the greater Xbox community did, so i would have to change it. I hope I'm not the only person who finds this don't ask, don't tell policy disgusting... eek

Holophonics - Amazing Sounds

Google Docs (Beta) is a sort of free online version like open office org but online which is very handy for travelers as you never need to worry about your information as long as you can get to a computer with the internet, you simple save and your done. Ive recently come across this new and amazing website called spambox.us, and for people like me its a very handy free service! You simply add your real email into the form, select how long you want your spam email to last (maximum one year) and then you enter that email into any website form to join up and the validation email is sent to your spambox email, which is then forwarded to your real email. Its simple and it protects you from spam! and once more its free! And after the period of time that you have selected to keep the spam email address alive it simply gets deleted, meaning that all emails that have then been sent to this email and no longer able to reach you. The website is simple not cluttered and works a treat. 1) Ad Block Plus - Ad block plus is a very handy Ad blocker which stops most Advertisements from reaching your monitor. read more

2) Stop Auto Play - Stop Auto Play is very handy for when you wish to view lots of videos as it requires you to press a play button before it starts to stream from the internet. It also helps stop some advertisements if they are in a specific format!

3) Bug Me Not - Bug me not allows you to get past subscriptions and enter a website with out having to sign up. Extremely handy if you want to try something out before spending time creating an account

4) No Script - No script is a very good safety program as it stops JavaScript, Java and other executable programs from running on your web browser, but it takes time to set up but once done its works very well

5) StumbleUpon - This add-on is a very handy way of adding new websites that you believe should be put in a bigger place! Just rate it better or worse and tell them why and the website is added!

Your Internet slow even though you pay lots to make it fast? Well why not read this and understand. In the UK there are many reasons why the Web is slow, some of them require some thinking and some are simple. In the UK there are 3 Main TV channles, BBC, ITV and Five TV. Now BBC have reciently released a new website called BBC Iplayer. When people did some reasearch they found one good reason why the Net is slow, When the calculated how much internet. The UK consumes alone they realised that the BBC Iplayer has used 1/4 of the UK's internet. That makes some bif internet bill. Then with the new release of the ITV Web Player it too will use lots more internet. Another reason why the internet is slow was because when telephones were first invented the cables that were made were so that People could call each other, but as time went on, the copper phone cables were starting to be used for the Internet So now lot of consumers use the copper cables which is much slower as fibreoptics
So With copper Cables and BBC tugging away at the internet it seems that there is still some sorting out to do, Try find the local internet provider and ask what sort of speeds you would get in your area or conduct this internet "Speed Test"

Viruses and how they spread

Most people get one once in a while but how does it get so big? Well this is how i hope to spread knowledge. The creator uploads it to the new and a few people download it with out noticing it, Then unaware some viruses end at that but some go even further. They then send out emails with the virus attached to it then your Family/Friends open the email then they get it, so for example lets say virus 'X' is sent to five of your friends and it sends to five other friends now with a simple calculation if virus X gets sent and downloaded and lets say there are the next five who send it to another five and so on for five times in the end 3125 people will be infected with virus X simple isnt it but on a huge scale this is sent ti millions of people except the smart people who have software which checks all incoming emails or people who don't open unknown emails send by people they don't know. Its naturally quite scary knowing that if the email is sent in this pattern: 5*5*5*5*5 the virus infected emails could easily infect so many innocent people.

So be careful with everything you do because one of those 3125 people might just be You

No MSN Ads

Had enough of MSN ads? well here is a good and easy way of saying farewell to them. There are 2 programs, The 1st one is the A patch This works for all messengers appart from MSN 8.0 which is the latest version. Now ive always been pleased with the a Patch but now it doesn't work i need a new way to solve my problems, So if you have updates to MSN 8.0 then you want to use this program called MSNadBlock its a 3rd person program which will stop all access trying to access the MSN ads area, this program runs in the background so you don't notice it but unfortunately you need to click on it each time you want it activated so its best if you put the files in the start up folder.

Loads of people hate ads especially the ones which say you are the one millionth user to visit the website, but for a few months i have been using one very special and very handy program. Its called Ad Blocker Plus ( ABP ) , Its very handy as all you need to do is right click on any image you want and click on "Adblock Image" and its blocked. But thankfully you don't need to do that each time as it has a list of thousands of Advertisement URLs so its a plug and play plug in, Quite handy really. Though the only down point is that its only for FireFox, but i truly believe that if they made if for Internet Explorer and Firefox they would get a bigger group of users.

As a member of the Yahoo! answers program i seem to find hundreds of questions asking for lists or free web proxy websites, so instead of answering the questions over and over again i have decided to add it to my blog so that i no longer need to explain what a proxy is or where to get a list from. So here it is:
A web proxy (some times referred to as a 'portal'" is a website which will cover the real URL of the website and display it as another website, for example myspace.com is filtered i would go to http://www.flydog.info and to conceal my destination and when i have entered the target URL the website would show this: http://www.flydog.info/browse.php?u=Oi8vd3d3Lm15c3BhY2UuY29tLw%3D%3D&b=159 Thus not showing the real URL and there for means the website isn't filtered.

Today hundreds of people create blogs each day, and many of them aren't successful. So how do you make a popular blog? Its simple, Keep them interested and teach them new stuff. For example my blog is about computers and i tell people about the advancing technology, but some people just talk about what they did on the weekend which to me, isn't very interesting. SO once you have selected a category but when you wright about a topic don't keep your mind one sided because the readers might have an opinion so state whats good about it and what the disadvantages are. a quite popular topic for example is fashion, you want to tell the world about it but with out spending too much money. So a good place to start if Digg.com and many other websites such as that, or if you are hoping to get a bigger audience you might possibly want to pay for Google ads, This will add your website and a few key words to describe it and add it to many websites which also have absence advertising other websites. This will increase the number of hits you get on your website. One last option is banner trading services. You send off your web banner and trade it for some ones banner and when you upload it and they have done that too, you both get better traffic.

Ever wanted to get cheaper music by following the rules of music licensing? Well i believe that i have found a way to save a few Pounds (£) by doing it online. When you go to shops or buy the CD online you have to pay for postage and packaging, but when you go online its just for the songs. For example for the CD Discovery made by Daft Punk buying it over amazon is £10 including Postage and Packaging, but over Itunes it only costs 5£ and you can then buy another album, This saves you £5, which isnt much buy buying all their albums off Itunes will save you at least 20 Pounds :)

Google April Fools Gmail Users

Well April Fools has just passed and Google couldn't resist to take part in the action. For 24 hours Google had a new and very special feature, you could send preset emails so that at the correct moment it would be sent. Users then logged on and looked around for the new and fancy timer, people even started to ask other Gmail users how to access it, Though there were also many other pranks that have been played over the years such as Google Book Search 'Scratch and Sniff' where users had to place their nose next to the monitor and press OK where they would then "load orders" and when they pressed on help users were then brought to a special page in the book where it told people about the origins of April Fools day. Best Email Provider

Hotmail

My first account i created was on Hotmail, when i was younger and i used Hotmail it was far too confusing to use with too many options and adverts. but now it has the new windows Vista look and is much simpler. It seems to be an all in one email provider where it has a calender page, Home page, Spaces page and a one care page. very simple to use but one major downfall is that every spammer knows about hotmail and find it too easy to get a new email. in a few weeks of me creating my new account there will most probably be spam.

Yahoo

I created my yahoo account but it wouldn’t let me log on, it kept on saying that my user wasn’t an existing user. But from past experience i recall that it was a but confusing especially with the homepage where you could completely trash it by moving every think any where. The other good memory was the web filter which filtered Wikipedi.com and ask.com and those are very commonly used. Well done yahoo, we love your content filtering!

Gmail

Gmail what can i say i just have a love for the simplicity of your service! very simple easy to use and very good spam filter! now talking about spam, Gmail has only been on the internet for a few years and i get plenty of spam, only for one reason. I have hundreds of accounts on different websites and one of them has sold my email on. luckily Gmail and its very handy spam filter gets it 99.9% correct and puts all of the crap on to my spam folder. I love Gmail but the colors are a bit to mutual and could stick out a bit more! One last thing about Gmail it that when you create a Gmail account you have an account for any Google service! the only problem is that you must get to that website then log on unlike Hotmail where you are logged in and then you have access on any of their services with out having to go to another website!

Track Down a Spammer

This method is quite easy but firstly i should point out that the people who send the emails usually have a spammer bot on their computer, so don’t go hunting them down!

Right, so you have a spam email you you want to know where it comes from and the where abouts of the spammer. First log on to your email and there usually a info button. click on the info button and it will show you loads of confusing text now what you want to look out for is something a bit like this now the small black part that i covered is his IP so with his IP address you then go to ip-adress.com and enter their IP address then with luck it will show you the local server, so you know that they the spammer is near that area

Today most people would like a completely free website such as freewebs, bravenet, piczo. These are for cheap people, buy a real web host and you get loads more features like FTP servers, a web domain (yourname.com) usually 2GB of memory, free emails, real time support etc… Now in freewebs all you get is web host wirth 30MB a rubbish web url e.g.:www.freewebs.com/yourname. now lets get this right. Who in the right mind would want a huge url which advertises not even your website! And 30MB is only big enough for 5 good quality photos and perhaps 3 pages of long scripting with html, java etc… What i am trying to say is that children up to around eleven shouls use freewebs etc… and when you get older buy a web host.

Good for web editing until it loses your code that took you a month to script and when you have finally finished it it disappars so little children would love it, seriously its amazing for young children but its useless for teens and adults.

amazing for little children again and amazing for pictures and much more. Its just the small bars at the top that really get on your nerves but i suppose having no ads and the small bar at the top does make up for advertising. Its actually very easy to move the pictures/graphics to you have and move text any where you want. Simplicity i think is piczo’s main goal, and i will agree that it is very simple to use.

Ubuntu (Linux)

So should i get Linux, many people ask them selves. well its really up to you! its much simpler but help isn't always easy since its not as big as Windows and it hasn't got professionals working on a new upgrade each day. It is a sort of community who want to have a different and experimental OS, its simple and easy to use but its not as you think! Its a different OS so there aren't many games for Linux, none of the files are in .exe or .dll etc… there are in a different format but this can be solved by downloading special immulators and it’s not as fun as windows (I think). Though this sounds bad you won’t receive any viruses since its not Windows and its not running the same format, though a common virus can be in Java since lots of websites use java applications. Since there are nearly no threats to Linux there is no need for an anti virus which gives you a quicker loading time which is always handy. Linux is an amazing OS and worth getting especially if you are too cheap to buy Windows since this is free ware!
